5-valve broadcast band radio.
PRESS, 13 JUNE 1947
The 5M7 was widely sold in New Zealand under several different minor brand names but unusually not, it seems, under Akrad's own house-brands (Pacific and Regent).
The 5M7 has been sighted in at least 3 different cabinet styles and its possible all three styles were used by all manufacturers.
The cabinet styles allocated to each brand are believed to be right, despite More Golden Age listing different brands to the different cabinets. The Escort from McKenzie & Willis in Christchurch has a transfer on the cabinet top identifying it, while the Invincible, with its more rounded cabinet, is the only model sighted (so far) with its own dial scale and the brand written on the dial. The Pathfinder 'Cub' is shown in advertising to use the same cabinet as the Escort - this (the first shown above) seems to have been the most common cabinet example.
The cabinet types specific to any brand require confirmation and so if you have one please get in touch.
Intermediate Frequency: 465kc/s

General Construction Notes for Akrad Radio Corporation Ltd:
Akrad sets often consist of 3 (or 4) numbers (eg: 518, 1059) or number-letter-number (5M4), and a common pattern exists for these sets: The first digit(or 2 digits in the case of 10-or-more valves) is the number of valves, the second is the number of bands and the third is the last digit of the year. Where the middle digit is a letter rather than a number it generally refers to the type of set - M for mantle, P for portable, G from radiogram etc
Often sets can be dated by the speaker, as many Akrad sets from the Pye era have the date of manufacture stamped on the back of the magnet housing.
